This policy explains how Verify Your Builder Pty Ltd (ACN 687 611 123) as trustee for S&P Capital Investments (ABN 86 643 391 894), trading as Datum Careers ("Datum", "we", "us") handles personal information in the Datum app and at datum.careers, under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Who this covers
Candidates who build a profile, people at companies who hire through Datum, and the project verifiers and referees that candidates name.
What we collect
Candidates: name, mobile number, personal email, photo, job title and level, current employer, work email (only to send the verification code), work history, education, projects and their images, licences, tickets and certificates, references, preferred package or day rate, work type and mode, home suburb and travel time, right to work, contractor ABN and insurance details, and preferences such as blocked companies and notification settings.
Companies: business name, ABN and the result of the ABN check, website, logo, and each team member's name, job title, work email and phone. Roles you post. Subscription and invoice details from Stripe (Datum never sees or stores card numbers).
Verifiers and referees: name, email address, and the answer or reference you give.
Hiring: messages, interview times, offers, contracts and signatures. A signature's audit record holds who signed, when, the device, the last 3 digits of the signer's verified mobile and a fingerprint of the document.
Membership: App Store or Google Play subscription status. Apple and Google handle the payment; Datum never sees card details.
Technical: sign-in times, the push token of each device you sign in on, and your time zone (for quiet hours).
Why we collect it
To match candidates with roles, verify employment, projects and references, run the hiring steps between a candidate and a company, check companies before they can post, moderate messages and reviews, bill companies, give support, and keep Datum safe and lawful.
Who sees a candidate's profile
No company sees a candidate profile until the candidate taps Show interest on that company's role. Then only that company sees it, and only for that role.
A company never sees a candidate's home suburb, package or day rate numbers, travel limit, work email, "where you want to go", or verifier and referee email addresses. It sees travel time and how well the candidate matches instead.
Withdrawing interest ends the company's access at once. Otherwise access ends 30 days after the application closes, unless the company hires the candidate.
Candidates can block companies. The current employer is always blocked, and companies never learn they were blocked.
Reviews of companies are anonymous. Companies see the review, never who wrote it.
Datum AI
Some features use Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, to draft text (such as a profile summary or a support reply) and to check messages for discriminatory questions, money requests and abuse. The text being drafted or checked is sent to Anthropic for processing and is not used to train its models. [Legal to confirm the wording against Anthropic's commercial terms.]
Where it is stored, and overseas providers
Profiles, files and messages are stored in Australia, in Sydney, with our hosting provider Supabase.
Some providers process limited information overseas to deliver their service: Resend (sending email), Twilio or MessageBird (SMS sign-in codes, and a discreet text when a notification can't reach your phone), Expo, Apple and Google (push notifications and app store subscriptions), Stripe (company payments) and Anthropic (Datum AI). Each receives only what it needs for that task. [Legal to confirm the APP 8 disclosure and list countries.]
How we protect it
Encryption in transit, private file storage opened only through short-lived links, database rules that stop any account reading another's data, an optional Face ID or fingerprint lock in the app, two-factor sign-in for Datum staff, and an audit log of every staff decision.
Lock-screen notifications never name the company, the role or a person.
How long we keep it
While your account is open. If you don't use Datum for 18 months we email you; if you still don't, a candidate account is deleted at 24 months, and never sooner than 30 days after that email. Accounts with an active membership are not deleted.
References are valid for 12 months, then the referee is asked to re-confirm.
When you delete your account we delete your profile, projects, references, messages and files. Datum's copy of a signed contract is deleted; the company keeps the copy it downloaded. Records we must keep by law, such as tax invoices, are kept for the time the law requires.
Your choices and rights
In the app, Privacy & account lets you download a copy of your data, correct your profile, block companies, withdraw interest and delete your account. You can also ask us at privacy@datum.careers.
We never sell personal information.
Under 18s
Datum is open to apprentices under 18. [Legal to confirm whether a parent or guardian must consent, and how.]
Complaints
Email privacy@datum.careers. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We will tell you in the app before a change to this policy takes effect.
